simultaneously — body, mind and emotions. The pulse-reading session usually lasts for a few minutes. He/she is 100 percent focused during your consultation.  A master vaidya will go to the heart of the matter and tell you what he sees.

Following your pulse evaluation, health-care practitioners who have been trained by a master vaidya will be available to spend more time with you to discuss dietary and lifestyle recommendations as well as instructions for taking herbal remedies.

QUESTION: Do the Ayushakti vaidyas work only with certain conditions?

ANSWER: The range of illnesses and conditions that Ayushakti Ayurved works with is amazingly broad.  Since 1982, Pankaj Naram has helped half a million people restore their health, many from serious and chronic ailments.  Ayurveda is also a preventative and holistic approach to health, increasing energy and strengthening digestion and the immune system with its herbal supplements.

With Ayurveda, once balance is restored to the body, mind, emotions and spirit, well-being and health follow.

QUESTION: What is Ayurveda and how does it work?

ANSWER: In brief, Ayurveda is a holistic health-care system created 5,000 years ago in India. It has been practiced widely in India since that time, and in the past century has also been practiced in Great Britain, Europe and the United States. Ayurveda works with the five elements of the body – air, water, fire, earth, space – the principle being that when these elements are in balance, the body enjoys good health, energy and happiness. When these elements fall out of balance, ill health, and eventually illness, may develop.

According to Ayurveda, symptoms are an indication of imbalance within the body. In order to restore balance, the root cause needs to be determined through pulse evaluation; then, a personalized health-care program is developed for the individual.   After the individual changes dietary and lifestyle habits, and takes herbal food supplements, symptoms often disappear — sometimes rapidly.   More chronic conditions may take longer to address but respond well to the Ayurvedic approach.

Ayurveda uses several means for accomplishing total health:

  • Diet tailored to the individual’s constitution
  • Lifestyle recommendations
  • Plant-based herbal remedies
  • Panchakarma – a deep cleansing and detoxifying program that cleans and rejuvenates the body at the cellular level. The Narams offer this treatment at their Mumbai, India clinic.
  • Marma Chikitsa– a form of energy work that involves 108 subtle points on the body to bring about physical, mental and emotional transformation
  • Home remedies – simple remedies, including spices and other foods

QUESTION: How long will I have to keep taking the herbs?

ANSWER: The Ayushakti experts recommend that you take the herbs for four to six months in between their USA visits, and then follow up with an appointment when they return so your program can be reassessed. Depending on the follow-up pulse evaluation, the vaidya may modify your herb protocol.  Ayurvedic herbs work in different ways for different people, and they have a positive cumulative effect over the long term. Some people feel the herbs' effects almost immediately;  others report a significant effect over time. However you may experience them, the herbs cleanse and rebalance one's system on a very deep level.

QUESTION: What can Ayurveda do for me?

ANSWER: While no health modality promises any cures, Ayurveda has been found to offer:

  • Relief from the stress and discomfort of chronic ailments like arthritis, skin problems, mental strain, fatigue, sleep disorders and digestive problems
  • Help with infertility, circulatory and respiratory issues
  • Energy to live the life of your dreams
  • Total care that balances your heart, mind and body through herbal remedies, diet, marma therapy and self-help techniques
  • Individualized dietary guidance to help your body maintain optimum health
  • Youthful flexibility and ease
  • Digestive power for a long and happy life, strength, beauty, the ability to focus and a glowing complexion and hair
  • Wisdom of the ancient sages, who knew where true happiness and peace of mind are to be found
